A new question Precision Nutrition Coaching customers always:
“I follow my calories and calories religiously… but I am not losing as much weight as I should. Why does this not work?!? “
Yes, conventional wisdom states that reducing your calorie intake by 500 calories a day (or increasing the amount you burn) should lead to about 1 pound of fat loss per week. (Math: 500 calories per day x 7 days = 3500 calories per week = 1 pound.)
However, this conventional wisdom is wrong. As discussed This article is about the metabolic damage mythYour metabolism can be adapted. As you eat less food, your metabolism slows down, invalidating general assumptions about calorie balance.
This is the perfect weight loss calculator – NIH Body Weight Planner and adapted from research collected. National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases—It takes into account the adaptive nature of metabolism and gives more accurate information about how hard you need to work (and how long it will take) to reach your goals.
(Keep reading the calculator below to find out why it’s more advanced than others.)

To understand why this calculator is so useful, let’s use an example client: Vanessa.
40 years old, 5 ‘6 “tall, 185 kg weight, very low level of activity at work and moderate exercise activity.
Based on this information, the calculator determined that he needed around 2,445 calories a day to maintain his weight.
Let’s say Vanessa wants to sustainably lose 40 pounds (i.e. 145 pounds of target weight) over the next year without any additional exercise.
The calculator suggests it should reduce its food intake to around 1,770 calories per day. (This is 675 calories less than is needed for maintenance.)
These numbers don’t make sense if you do traditional calorie math.
A 675 calorie daily deficit results in a deficit of 246,375 calories over a full year. (Math: 675 calorie deficit x 365 days = 246,375 calories.)
This would theoretically lead to a 70-pound weight loss for Vanessa. (Math: 246,375 calorie deficit / 3,500 calories per 1 kilogram = 70 kilograms lost.)
But the body doesn’t work that way. Instead, Vanessa would only lose about 40 pounds. (Obviously still great.)
Why this huge inequality?
As stated above, your Your metabolism will adjust as you eat less and lose weight. And traditional mathematics does not take into account this complex nature of human metabolism.
Therefore, it’s important to make sure that your expectations about weight loss and body change match how your body actually works.
This calculator helps with this. It makes it easy to set appropriate behavioral goals and gives you a more realistic view of what your potential progress might look like.
